5 Gifts You Should Avoid Dude!

February being the month of love and all, the Internet is always loaded with lists of gifting options. But what about the put-off list. I couldn’t resist the temptation of ending February with a list which may appear like it’s a Tohfa Tohfa Tohfa list but its nothing more than a Dhoka Dhoka Dhoka list.

Lets face it, the girl who counts every calorie that goes into her body, is she really gonna gorge on the chocolates that you gift her? Flowers will perish and cards will get stacked in drawers. So if that gives you a brilliant idea Sirji of coming up with something that achieves the dual purpose of being a gift and a utility item, stop right there. Avoid these like you would avoid Tees Maar Khan or better still Ram Gopal Verma ke Sholay.

1   Gym Membership

Hehe. Really dude? Are you actually the modern day version of Maharana Pratap or Shivaji or Samrat Ashok? Unless you think that you have that soul of steel, stay at least a few hundred metres away from this one. You are actually telling your wife or gf that she needs to shed those inches. Which mind you might be 200% true, and something she might be saying to herself and to you all the time. But but but, I cannot put it any simpler words, YOU CANNOT SAY IT. Or even think it, sometimes she can even smell the thoughts.
So jokes like the following are a strict nono: Peechle kuch saloon mein yeh ek hi investment double hui hai.

2   Gadgets

Okay, first things first. She uses gadgets, she loves them. But do they count as a gift? Not in her world. Mobile phones, laptops, Ipads, and the likes, of course she’d like to lay her hands on them. But on a special occasion, if you land up on the door with a twinkle in your eye, a 32 watt smile on your face and a gadget in your hand, also be prepared to land up alone on the couch.

3   Appliances

A Cold Press Juicer may add value to the kitchen. A sought after brand more so.  A new generation washing machine or an Android driven refrigerator may do wonders to the household chores, but that’s what they are at the end of the day, chores. Wake up guys, a household appliance does not come remotely close to a romantic gesture.

4   Needs vs Wants

It wouldn’t hurt to put your knowledge of Economics to some use. She may have mentioned that the house needs a new fresh touch of paint or that the car could do better with a new stereo system. Thank you for listening for once. But that so does not mean that you arrive with the painter at the door on her special day. Or announce ‘Surprise, just for you honey!’ on your next weekend drive.

5   Money & Gift Certificates

Vouchers? There are better ways to tell the woman in your life that you have no time for her honestly. She does know that its not easy to pick up something that would please her gender easily, but come on, you guys at least have tons of options to choose from. Imagine what she has to go through when she’s faced with the same mammoth task!
And money, dude, that’s a privilege enjoyed only by grandma and grandpa, for the never-ending affection and doting. Don’t even try.

Office Workers Caricatures and Cartoons Going Away Gifts

And while we are at it, ladies, a word of caution for you too. A COUPLE OF THINGS WHICH MAY PUT OFF YOUR MAN. It’s just like asking a commitment phobic man this question: Where is this relationship going?
1 Self-help books, especially something like - A book on being open to receiving directions.
2 Techy things that we may be in our minds be a master at, but realistically know nothing about.

Happy giving and receiving dearies!

HAha definitely an interesting list! But the last part, in my case doesn't work. I am very choosy about clothes, patterns and colors. Only very few people can get me what I really love. It's better to accept vouchers than pretend to like what I received. (I'd never say I didn't like a gift I got though) :)

That is a fairly comprehensive list, is that not? For a while, I used to feel safe gifting music albums and books but I guess they are kind of passé. Needs vs Wants: This one is pretty devastating!

This post says everything about what a woman wants or to be exact, what she doesn't want. If only you had posted this at the start of the month instead of the end. :D

Enjoyed reading and I am going to force my husband to read as well. I remember one cousin gifting his wife 15 maxie night wear. He said he thought she loved them a lot as she was seen wearing them all the time. Imagine his condition when she opened the package....

Totally Ranjana! Better to accept vouchers if that whats suits us best, but why leave a chance of playfully troubling our better halves so the inclusion of that point here ;-)

Very true. Appreciate the humour you have put in the post.

However, it lands me to the question which perhaps has remained unanswered since the stone age- "What then?"

A high five for that.
You speak our collective minds, Leena.
