A younger brother, a first
cousin and a second cousin. I’ve been blessed with three such brothers whose
ears I can squeeze when needbe. Those are the 003 I’m referring to. The
occasion – every Indian knows that. ‘Behna ne bhai ki kalaai pe …..’
It’s been a while since I’ve
done some emotional blabbering, so today’s your lucky day ;-). Not exactly
emotional, but I’m surely in the mood for some sort of an abstract rant. The
end result, you get another peek into my not so unusual life!
As if one wasn’t enough, God
decided to be a little more kind and gave me two more. Younger cousin brothers.
Having been brought up in a joint family with a large family network, we were
always surrounded by tons of relatives. But these two particlaur cousins of
mine, anybody would assume were my very own siblings. That’s the kind of bond
we share.
Tying a rakhi on your
brother’s hand and being promised to be protected in return, that’s what Raksha
Bandhan is about. But having to protect a sister is a situation which may or
may not arise in a lifetime. Just being there for a sister when she needs you,
even without her having to say it, that’s a real bond. And of course, also at
the times, when she explicitly says it – do this, do that, get me this, buy me
that ;-).
Then there are these relations
which are not really celebrated on one particular day. The quintessential
sisters’ relationship. Yes, I’m digressing, but I warned you in the very
beginning, this post is an abstract rant :-).
So, there is no day where the bond between two sisters is celebrated, but honestly,
that doesn’t change anything. Of the few realtionships in your life, which
shower you with unconditonal affection, one such is a sisters’ bond. I’ve been
blessed with one elder sister. And, however we may quarrel and drive each other
crazy, that tie is one which lasts forever. Yes, but having an elder sis meant
I could never boss her around. That desire of mine was fulfilled by my aunt,
who gifted us this sweet little cousin of mine.
As kids and teenagers, we
never realise the true value of these relationships, rather we start taking
them for granted. But the older you get, the more matured, you start to count
these blessings. My mom’s niece is another such cousin, we may not be able to
be in touch for days together, but the bond, it’s there.
With these siblings and
cousins of mine, I’ve had the pleasure of experiencing little moments of joy.
Our outings, get-togethers, the times we spend together are always precious. Feelings
that only we share, jokes that only we get, they are friends gifted by God for
life.
In this world that we have
bulit around us today, many people have started losing out on such intangible
joys. And hence miss out on the beauty of genuine relationships. Unfortunately,
as we advance and progress, it seems like the number of materialistic people
are ouweighing the naïve others. I sincerely hope that such life enriching
moments shall also be experienced by the super-evolved next gen.
PS. In all this blabber of
mine, I haven’t done one very important thing. Wishing my dear brothers a long
healthy and prosperous life. Love you always.
