A little bit of India in
Singapore, that’s Sindiapore. And no its not actually a bit, it’s a huge 9k
count!
When on far-off shores, the
heart looks for comfort, the soul searches like-minded people who share a
smiliar culture and roots, to feel at home. Communities like Sindiapore have
been instrumental in getting Indians together in foreign land. The popular FB
group has been in existence for many years.
It was a social gathering cum
shopping extravaganza cum an entertainment show all rolled into one. The event
started off with a tabla performance of a little boy, and given how hard it is
for young children to exert force on the instrument, I have to say he did a very
good job. After a Tamil vocal rendition by a music teacher, there were several
dance performances of cute girls, some solo, some group. And each one of them kept
the audience hooked.
Post-lunch, they followed it
up with an informative and interactive session on Ayurveda. An incentive of
free vouchers + filled tummies = tumhara ek sawaal, mere do do jawaab ;-).
As if this wasn’t enough,
there were stalls set up for sale of decorative festive items and clothing. And
a corner for kids’ art ensured that the baccha party had a gala time.
Other commitments meant I had
to take their leave early. And I missed out on the games that were to follow,
Bingo and the likes. But I left with a new list of friends, fond memories in my
heart and a smile on my face.
A warm and cozy event, just
like a get-together of a family and extended relatives. How more homely can it
get?
Missed it this time? Watch out their space for the next! Here’s wishing Sindiapore a
long run and many more fun events!
PS. Nope I don't normally do Sponsored posts, but what are friends for! The opinions and the words
are of course solely mine!
